People Fun - Kingdom roll out new uniform at Ikea - the right message!

We recently rolled out our new Polo Shirt in Partnership uniform at Ikea stores (see image) which is relaxed, holds both company logos (in partnership) but still provides an immediate, professional security presence.

The right uniform draws attention to how the wearer feels about themselves and this has an impact on an employee’s welfare. Our security teams will often be the first and last impression, we therefore have a responsibility to ensure our staff are regarded as professional and approachable both in their manner and appearance.

For every client there is a unique solution that blends the corporate identity to create the perfect uniform and the balance between official and officious.

Kingdom Security Ltd acquires Southern based ALAMO Security

Kingdom Security has acquired the Southern based company, Alamo Security.
The acquisition includes £4.5 million turnover, approximately 7,000 guarding hours and a large volume of mobile patrols, key holding and remote CCTV monitoring service provisions in London and the South East plus the retention of a London office (Canning Road, Stratford, London. E15 3ND) and a management support team.

The current customer portfolio and security staff will integrate into the Kingdom portfolio and the acquisition is in line with the Kingdom strategy to compliment excellent organic growth with selective national acquisitions.

Kingdom Security has been selected as an IKEA preferred security supplier throughout the UK.

Following a robust pre qualification process, presentation and National Support Centre visit Kingdom developed a tailored service package to meet the needs of the leading furniture supplier which included a 10 module training package including an NVQ in Loss Prevention, Customer service training, First Aid and Conflict Management. Each training module relates to IKEA policies and procedures making the training unique to the brand. The service provided by Kingdom also includes an "in partnership" uniform to reflect the IKEA work environment.

The Health and Safety Executive recorded a 12% increase in abuse and assault of workers by the general public in their British Crime Survey for 2009. The report shows over 176,000 workers in England and Wales were threatened with physical violence whilst at work and 168,000 were physically assaulted over the same period.

Trends no longer suggest it is it a certain industry sector that suffers exclusively. The recession has undoubtedly been a key reason for the rise in physical assaults. Greater levels of stress and a rise in activities such as shoplifting have led to an increase in violence against workers.

Empower your staff through tailored conflict management training:

One thing is clear; you cannot prevent conflict situations arising; however all employers have a duty of care towards their staff in line with the role they are expected to carry out.

On 1/6/2010 Kingdom Security underwent their 4th SIA (Security Industry Authority), ACS (Approved Contractor Status) audit.

The inspection is over 4 days and includes a Head Office inspection plus unannounced visits to customer and security staff in the field.

Kingdom received an excellent report and extracts include:-

As well as the key financial and service indicators the company measures itself against, Kingdom Security Limited have increased their score by 54.9% over the past 12 months.

There are no areas where Kingdom Security Limited falls below the Required Achievement Level necessary to meet the ACS standard

Goals, objectives and targets have been identified at all levels of the organisation.

The company’s management and supervision work very closely with the staff on the sites. A quotation offered during the assessment included: “They are a very good company to work for”

All clients interviewed expressed a very high satisfaction with the services provided. A comments from a client included: “Responsive and professional”

The level of training conducted on the sites visited during the assessment was very good

A clear “fit and proper” management structure is in place

Our recent acquisition and organic growth has seen the formation of a dedicated Corrective Action Unit (CAU).

Our complaints procedure is an integral part of our quality programme so our CAU team record, analyze, communicate and respond to all service related matters and manage any issues OUT! via a strong administrational and response team.

All customer service notes are centrally recorded on our internal Roster Manager IT system (disciplinary, commendations, matters for action, meeting notes and complaints) and the department interactive white board transparently shows the flow of the item until conclusion.

TERRY BARTON has spent his whole working life in various parts of the crime prevention and punishment sector.

He started out in the police before completing a law degree and training to be a solicitor while still with the force. But then he decided that it was not for him.

“When I finished my degree, I realised there was a big world outside the police,” he said. “I embarked on a career as a solicitor, but I realised that I didn’t want to be a solicitor.

“I looked around for options and at that moment in time I ran in to someone I used to know who ran a business fairly locally and they were looking for some security advice.

“When I went down, I realised they needed a security guard on site and not just cameras. They asked me for a recommendation.

“I knew nobody, I was at a loose end, so I did it. That’s how I started.”

That was Barton’s first foray into running his own business, which lasted for two years before it merged with another local company. “We grew it by 2½ times while I was there,” he said. “The experience I had, which at the time wasn’t to my liking, was part of the overall learning curve of this industry and business as a whole.

“It taught me a lot and some of those lessons have never left me. I was there for three years, then I left and started again by myself and set up Kingdom Security in 1993. In doing that, I bought out a tiny company in Rainford which had seven guards.

“It was a risk and a gamble but I always work on gut instinct so I went for it. I am very proud of Kingdom Security and our achievements – it's a hard industry and bloody hard work but rewards come with hard work.”

The company has grown rapidly and now employs more than 1,000 people undertaking 1.9m guarding hours a year.

It went on the acquisition trail this summer, taking over FSG Security, Guardian Security and Firewalker Events. These deals have added some great clients.

Barton said: “I have got a definite entrepreneurial spirit. It drives me on. I get maximum enjoyment from it and looking at where we are and where we will be. There’s lots of growth yet within the company. “The business is well-established and I have an fantastic, industrious team around me"

He said: “We cover the UK with lots and lots of new projects on the boil which are extremely exciting and will hopefully be unveiled very soon"

His confidence in both the firm’s integrity and in its financial position means Barton believes Kingdom is well-placed to be part of the consolidation process in the industry.

He said: “We have always run things tight but professionally, we have been financially astute, been very focussed, driven, lucky and all have a passion to always "get it right" that gives us a great future"!

People Fun - A memorable interview with Kingdom

Recent Applicant Comments: I have worked for the good, bad and ugly security companies over 17 years and I approached my interview with Kingdom with a rather nonchalant attitude, after all, I saw Kingdom Security as just another security company, offering just another security position. However, to my surprise as I entered my interview I quickly realised I was not just dealing with an average company just content with recruiting a security officer for the sake of a contract. I was greeted by Mr Patrick Walsh (Recruitment Manager) and handed a very comprehensive and professional interview information pack followed by one on one meeting with Mr Walsh who had specific, detailed questions ready to fire in my direction. It certainly was a memorable experience, especially since I had been use to nothing more than informal chats and immediate signing of contracts. I was relieved at making it to the end of what I thought was the first and final stage of the recruitment procedure. Only I was mistaken, and was informed that I would be invited to a second stage, which would include a security test an assessment and having to be approved by the client, site supervisor and the security team!

Security Base (7 reminders)!

Secure base door from 22:00 hrs if operationally possible
Only allow authorised staff into the base
Obtain a signature for any equipment / keys leaving the base
Keep the base clean, organised and tidy - ensure everything has a place
Don't touch what does not belong to you
Ensure in dark hours security base lights are kept ON - if glare dim the lights or use small side light
Do not spend unauthorised time within the base - if it is time to patrol, go out on patrol

MOBILE DRIVER ZONE

Vehicle Damage: You may be held responsible for any excess damage claims payments if found responsible for an accident in a company vehicle. TWO accidents where you are deemed neglectful may result in you being removed from company insurance.

Weather Conditions: Drive carefully, thoughtfully and SLOW!

Welfare visits - some drivers will shortly be receiving staff welfare visits audit forms.

EVENTS ZONE

Dress Code: Should you attend an event with incorrect dress code you will be sent home. In cold weather a BLACK woolly hat can be worn but must not hold any logo.
